The aim of the language programme is to help students to learn more effectively by utilising native English speakers in lessons that involve the use of London as a second classroom (i.e. students are speaking to native English speakers on the street, in shops, museums and so on). Each teaching hour is deemed to be 45 minutes in length. Hour 1
classroom tuition at the school – language focus, grammar and vocabulary input plus worksheet creation and practice exercises.
Break
in which the group and their teacher travel to the location being used that day. Written work and/or focused discussion can and does take place on the underground or bus.
Hour 2The teacher breaks the group into pairs or small groups in order to complete the tasks and interact with people and carefully monitors their completion of the task.
Breakin which the group and the teacher go to a designated area near to the location/venue used in the second hour. The third hour is to be completed in a nearby café.
Hour 3The teacher elicits feedback and focused discussion from the group, designed to highlight experiences of success within the group and re-drill the language that has been used in the lesson, or is relevant to the planned lesson for the next day.
So that everyone studying at gets to meet each other, they organise social evenings on Wednesdays and Fridays. These are attended by staff, students and friends. They take students to cinemas, restaurants, pubs, bars, clubs and gigs.
